Cycle of Torment

Cycle of Torment is a 2D side-scrolling time management game following an anxiety-riddled hypochondriac managing the daily stress of self care. The game takes place over 6 days, with the 7th deciding when you spend what may be the last day before (what could be) the end of the world, whether that be braving the outdoors after isolating for so long, or so anxiety driven that getting out of bed becomes impossible.

For this project, I worked as the Lead Programmer as well as collaborated on the overall Design. My contributions included:

  • Implementing the desired mechanics while managing conflicting scripts

  • Management of numerous customisable menu options

  • Scripting Minigame sequences, including interactive environmental puzzles and stress relieving tasks

  • Buddy scripting (follow the player, grow larger or smaller depending on stress, attack if at 100%, etc.)

  • Close collaboration with the Lead Art and Sound teammates

  • Many, many more minor tweaks and polishes!

I aided in getting the project to a mostly finalised state for grading by this project’s submission deadline. It is an ambitious project for as small a team as it was that helped put this together, and I am grateful for what I learned from this experience.
